Dooley's - Tempe, Arizona. October 14th 1980
The concert took place at a small venue near Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, called Dooley's. Dooley's were famous at that time for their progressive shows and a drink called the "car crash" which was mostly rum and vodka. I apparently took leave of my front row seat several times to make use of the facilities, and snapped shots while I was up, as well as seated. I have always considered myself a p**s-poor photographer, but I surprise myself at how well some of these scans turned out. This was a small room, with phenomenally good acoustics. The band, and Steve, put on a show which I will never forget. The third shot in this series (Top Right) is Steve performing an acoustic version of Horizons, which was a sentimental favorite of mine, and had the crowd howling. I also recall that the last number had Steve slamming away at his guitar, and then putting his pick in his mouth and playing his guitar directly in front of his face. Just before he left the stage for the last time, he dropped the guitar and revealed blood dripping from between his lips onto his chin.. (from a stage prop I assumed !?). I walked out wowed by the performance and somewhat shocked by Steve's stage antics. (Early 80's, eh?).

The Cabaret - San Jose. September, 1992
November 12, 1993 Steve Hackett returned to The Cabaret in San Jose while touring his new album Guitar Noir. Many dedicated fans were seeing Steve on his fourth visit to San Jose. Steve first performed locally in October, 1980 at the Morris Daly Auditorium at San Jose State University. In December, 1981 his second concert in Silicon Valley was held at the San Jose Civic Auditorium. The year before these photos were taken was Steve's first visit to The Cabaret. Many of us in the Valley wonder when we'll be treated to a 5th stunning concert..... Submitted by Dale Debold |

Oswego State - New York. October 1981
Back in Oct. of '81 I could not believe my ears when I heard that Steve Hackett was coming to my little town in upstate NY, to play at the local college (Oswego State). I purchased tickets as soon as they went on sale. Tickets were $7.00!!! The man could take a guitar and make such beautiful music, I couldn't tell at times if it was a guitar or if it was the sound of many grand organs playing in sync. As the concert neared, other great news, Steve was going to be signing autographs at the college store the day of the show! I was going to meet him, and I did. He arrived (casually walking across campus) with Kim Poor right on time and took time to talk with all of us. Nice guy. Remember me Steve, I had on the white shirt :) |

After meeting Steve, my friends and I headed to the concert to grab
front row seats. We did. The show was crisp, clean, talented, fun,
moving, upbeat, and as a Steve hackett fan, very rewarding! thanks Steve
for a great day!
